Homeless Outreach and Prevention
Support and resources for those facing housing insecurity in Cranbrook.
We serve people of all ages in Cranbrook who are facing homelessness, are at-risk of homelessness or are in unstable housing situations (ei. couch-surfing).
Reasons people may become homeless or be at-risk of becoming homeless:
- Personal or family crisis
- Leaving abusive relationships
- Being a youth in unsafe conditions
- Loss of income
- Increasing housing costs
- Lack of housing availability
- Major life change
- Leaving the health or corrections systems
What we do:
- Provide services to singles, couples and families in Cranbrook
- Provide information about housing and renting, including tenant and landlord rights
- Connect people to suitable, safe and affordable housing, when available
- Connect street-involved, marginalized, transient and vulnerable people to services
- Help with housing applications
- Make referrals to services or connect with other service providers
- Advocate for individuals’ housing needs
- Advocate for the community’s housing needs more broadly
- Provide short-term rental subsidies or one-time assistance to help people overcome challenges
- Work with other agencies to help people best utilize their support system
What we don’t do:
- Provide housing
- Help home owners
- Provide subsidies to those who already have subsidized housing
- Be a person’s source of income
- Provide long-term support that encourages dependency on our limited resources
