East Kootenay Supported Child Development Program promotes and facilitates inclusion in childcare programs for all children throughout the East Kootenay, in collaboration with families, childcare providers and community partners.

Services are for children ages 0 to 12 years with a focus on ages 3 to 6 years, are attending a licensed or regulated childcare program, have an identified developmental need and require additional support to meet their individual needs to participate fully.

• Consultation with families and childcare programs to identify child’s strengths and needs, to support a child’s participation in inclusive care.
• Working with childcare providers and families to develop and monitor strategies to support a child’s participation and development in inclusive childcare.
• Placement of Support Workers to help childcare programs with strategies to support child development and inclusion.
• Consultation with families to support them developing strategies to support child development, navigate referrals and supply resources
• Provide Toy Lending Library and Resource Library access

• Inclusion is an approach to delivering service in which all children are welcomed, supported and valued.
• Collaboration amongst families, East Kootenay Supported Child Development and childcare providers builds strong teams that will benefit all children.
• Children of all abilities have the right to be included and participate along side their peers in a childcare program of parents choosing.
• The earlier intervention and support are provided for children with developmental needs, the more impact it will have on the child’s lifelong learning, emotional well-being and social interactions.
